Introduction to the subject The End of Master's Work (hereinafter TFM) is one of the program's most important learning activities. Students have the opportunity to deepen their study of a subject of their interest, while also allowing them to develop fundamental skills and skills, such as the ability to plan a process, solve problems, analyze and interpret results, or defend proposals through efficient communication. 4 Teaching guide Final Master's degree: Professional orientation The TFM consists of planning, carrying out, presenting and defending an original project on a topic related to the theoretical contents of the master's degree. Its purpose is to promote the application of the skills and knowledge acquired in the rest of the subjects of the Master, as well as to facilitate the development of relevant competencies. TFM can be a research project in an area of artificial intelligence (AI), or an applied project focused on the practical development of AI algorithms for problem solving in the industry. The TFM is conducted under the direction of a director, whose function is to guide and assist the student in each of the phases of its realization. The director will contact the TFM student for the presentation of the work within the deadlines and the required quality standards (see procedure through the platform). The Final Master's Degree is produced throughout the course and is presented at the end of the Master's Degree, once the previous modules have been passed. The student must present and defend this project before a panel of experts. What is not contemplated in this guide is regulated by the General Regulation of TFM/TFG. 1.4. Basic Competences and Learning Results The realization of the TFM will help the student acquire the following general competences of the Master in Artificial Intelligence: CB6 - To possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and/or application of ideas, often in a research context. CB7 - That students know how to apply the acquired knowledge and their resolution capacity in new or little known environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study. CB8 - That students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on information that, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. CB9 - That students know how to communicate their conclusions – and the latest knowledge and reasons that support them – to specialized and non-specialised audiences in a clear and unambiguous way. CB10 - That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue to study in a way that will have to be largely self-directed or autonomous. 5 Teaching guide Master's degree: Professional orientation SPECIFIC COMPETENCES OF CE1 ASIGNATURE - Mastering the fundamentals of data engineering (modeling, intake, storage, processing, analysis and visualization), techniques of tracking, processing, indexing and retrieval of information. Methodology The Final Master's Work will be developed throughout the course and will be presented at the end of the Master's Degree, once the previous modules have been passed. During its development the student must: • Choose TFM theme from those proposed by the coordinator or propose TFM themes by agreeing with a director. • Submit the necessary documentation for the request for the item. • Contact the tutor and present a report containing: the definition of the objectives of the work and the work plan. • Writing the memory of TFM and presenting it to the tutor so that he can make corrections in order to improve the work. • Registration and deposit of TFM documentation. • Make a clear and concise presentation using slides. 2.1. Job Description End of Master The TFM must be a personal, original and unpublished work in which the competencies and knowledge acquired within the framework of the Master are applied and developed. The work can be derived from an individual or collective development activity, so that it must reflect that activity, maintaining the student's authenticity. The workload of the TFM for each student consists of a proportional relationship with the credits allocated in the subject multiplied by the hours per ETCS credit (25 - 30 working hours / ETCS). Work and defence must maintain an authentic character and, within the selected theme of the project, unique in the drafting of the project. It should be noted that the written document derived from the work will pass through a plagiarism detection tool and if the plagiarism percentage is greater than 30% will not be able to defend itself. Developed TFMs can be of two types: 1. Academic: it will be a research project closer to what can be a mini thesis. It includes bibliographic review, hypothesis proposal, methodology, results and discussion. There may be an application part (code and implementation) but they focus on the research aspect. 2. Applied to an industry problem: these are less academically focused and are focused on applying one or more AI techniques to solve a particular problem. It is expected that there will be some review of the literature, but it is more dedicated to seeing what solutions are possible, etc. The project is more of implementation than of thesis. The subject chosen by the student may be of a research, development, analytical or bibliographical review nature in any of the contents seen in the subjects of the Master. Any of the types to be achieved must complete their initial objectives. The student will be responsible for deciding the subject of the work to be carried out following the procedure to be explained later. 8 Teaching guide Master's degree: Vocational guidance 2.2. Tutoring Presentation and final evaluation sessions by the TFM Coordinator The presentation session will describe the didactic guide and clarify the TFM evaluation system and the steps that students need to follow in the preparation of the work: oral presentation and written delivery. The final assessment session will be aimed at resolving the doubts raised by students, their assessment of the development of the subject, and the preparation of the defense of the TFM. 2.3. Coordination It is responsible for ensuring compliance with the proposed timetable for the implementation of the work. To this end, a didactic guide will be published indicating the characteristics of the TFM, as well as an annex that will reflect the planning of all sessions. He will also be in charge of the management of the allocations, as well as the publication of the lists of topics and teachers available to make TFM. 2.4. Assistant Director Each student will be assigned a director, who will be responsible for specifying the guidelines of the work and tutoring the student during the performance of the work. In accordance with the Regulations on End of Master's degree/Grade of the International University of Valencia, a list of the topics on which the work can be carried out will be made public, as well as a list of the directors. The list of TFM proposals shall at least include: • Title of the TFM proposal. • Name of the proposer. • Summary or description of the TFM The students, after evaluating the different proposals, will contact in coordination with those proposals that are most attractive to them, to request that the work be assigned to them with a personal contribution to the proposal. This process will be carried out by means of a coordination form which will be made available to students on the dates indicated (see Session Planning Annex). Each student must indicate the subject and type of work according to the indications described for this purpose in this subject. The VIU can also sign collaboration agreements with other external tutors proposed by the student himself. In the event of a proposal for a subject by the student, he or she must fill in the form with the data on the TFM so that, once sent to the address of the degree, the adequacy to the educational competences of the degree is assessed. The final assignment of the Director by the TFM/TFG Commission will depend on the final distribution of the selected topics and types of work. The proposing teacher, after hearing the student's motivation and interest in the proposal, may or may not select the student. When two or more students choose the same proposal from a TFM tutor, the tutor will be able to direct these students by having the 9 Teaching Guide Master's final work: Career orientation students take on different challenges that are reflected in the general or specific objectives, even if the same subject is the same. If a student, having requested a topic and/or proposal, does not manage to have any TFM, he or she will inform the master's director, so that he or she can provide a solution that assures the student that he or she can perform the TFM during the academic year in which he or she has enrolled in the master's degree. Once the subject is selected and assigned by the director, no changes will be accepted without the approval of the TFM/TFG Commission. Students who want to change the subject once selected should contact the TFM coordinator. DIRECTOR OF TFM To act as director of TFM, it is mandatory to have a university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher engineering in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010 of 2 July, or alternatively, a doctorate. The director of TFM can be a professor of the Master, VIU or external. In case of being externally chosen on the proposal of the student, the student must be presented to the degree management with a curriculum vitae in order to be evaluated his or her training. Shared supervision of the TFM by two co-directors is possible if at least one of them meets the conditions specified in the preceding paragraphs. The functions of the tutor in the TFM are: • To ensure that the objectives initially set are met. • To advise on the choice of the TFM and the scope of the student's work. • Make a final assessment prior to the deposit of the TFM in the VIU and send to coordination. From this assessment it will be synthesized in an evaluation in the range of 0 to 1, which in case of being greater than 0.5, will enable the student to carry out the defense of his work. This rating will in turn represent 30 per cent of the project note. On the other hand, the director will be able to make videoconferences and tutorials by mail or chats with the student, to solve and analyze issues that affect the development of the TFM. 2.5. Work deposit Once the work has been done and after consultation with the tutor (in good time), the memory deposit is made through the virtual campus in the TFM subject itself. The following documents must be submitted: • Annex I. Application for the defence of Master's degree. • Annex II. Director's assessment report (delivered by the tutor). • Original copy of the TFM in PDF format. 10 Teaching guide Final Master's degree: Professional orientation • Copy of the academic record (certificate of notes). Note. The academic record is accessible from the virtual campus secretariat in “My Academic Progress” / “Get Certificate”. 2.6. Work Defense Once the TFM deposit deadline has expired, the coordinator will make public each of the defenses within the period set out in the annual calendar of the course. These dates will be transmitted to the members of the court and published on the virtual campus. The defence event will be held on campus VIU through videoconferences with an oral presentation in front of a court, with slides for support and in a public open session. It will be essential to have microphone and webcam properly configured and it is recommended to access the session in time to solve any kind of improvisation that might arise (at least with 30 minutes). The court will request identification document (DNI or passport) at the beginning of each defence. The President of the Court shall moderate the oral presentation of the work, which shall last no more than 20 minutes. It will give an account of the most relevant aspects of the activity carried out. At the end of that presentation, the Court may ask as many questions or clarifications as it deems appropriate, within a time limit of 15 min. After that, a member of the Evaluation Commission will inform you of the qualification obtained. This qualification will be transferred to the Qualifications site of the subject by the Coordination. TRIBUNAL DE DEFENSA As discussed above, the court will be responsible for the evaluation of the TFMs both in the work presented in.pdf format (memory) and in the oral presentation of the student. It shall consist of three members and shall be appointed after the end of the registration period. The election of the members shall be through a commission set up by the coordination; the members of the Tribunal shall preferably be teachers of the Master's degree. Under no circumstances may the guardian of a work subject to evaluation be a member of the court that judges him. A president and a clerk shall be appointed for each court. The Registrar shall be responsible for duly completing the minutes, which he shall make available to the co-ordination for the incorporation of the ratings and thereafter to the TFM minutes. 3. Training activities During the development of each of the subjects, a series of learning activities are planned that help students to consolidate the knowledge worked. The following are the activities that form part of the subject: 11 Teaching guide End-of-Master work: Career orientation 1. Tutoring In total the hours of tutoring assigned are 30 and 30% are required in-personity. The tutorials are divided into: a. Collective tutorials They will be imparted in a synchronous way through videoconferences at the beginning and end of the TFM. The first will present the subject (professorate, planning and recommended material) and the second will be aimed at resolving the doubts raised by the student body, its assessment on the development of the subject, and the preparation of the evaluation. These classes should be followed in the schedule set out in the planning of each subject, although they will be recorded for a possible later viewing. b. Individual tutoring Students may have individual tutoring with their director for the resolution of doubts. The director of TFM will contact his tutoring through the platform, being able to have collective and individual tutoring. 2. Development of the work End of Master It is necessary an involvement of the students that includes the critical reading of the bibliography, the systematic study of topics, the reflection on the problems raised, the resolution of the proposed activities, the search, analysis and elaboration of information, etc. The faculty of the University will continue to have a guiding role, but the student will be required to think, resolve, consult and put into practice everything he has learned. The TFM should include both practical work (software, design collection, code, etc.) and associated documents necessary for its realization (Bibliographical review, implementation, discussion, etc.). Self-employment may be carried out in a group, subject to the approval of the coordinating committee. In order to guarantee the defense of definitive work within the prescribed deadlines, during the course will be proposed the delivery of drafts of the Final Master's Work, to be carried out by the students individually. The delivery of these drafts will be made as an attachment to the corresponding Virtual Campus Activity. Drafts (WORD) and final work (PDF) will be delivered through Virtual Campus Activities. It should be noted that the delivery of at least one draft within the stipulated deadlines is a mandatory task for the defence of the TFM. Therefore, the director will be responsible, once the work is delivered, for reviewing it with change control and, informing the student about the errors committed and possible improvements of the task performed. NOTE. The delivery of drafts within the prescribed time limit is not binding, since the time lost in the following delivery can be recovered, since the content 12 Teaching guide Master's final job: Career orientation of the job is always cumulative and can be modified at any time of the process. The content of the draft may be adapted to the characteristics and particularities of the chosen project and shall be defined in advance by its director. Formal structure and contents of the work The content, management and documentation of the TFM must comply with the following mandatory requirements: • The title of the work should not differ from that established initially in the assignment process. • The evaluation of TFM, students must present a memory of the TFM carried out, in Spanish, which should contain at least the following sections: - Title, author, tutor/s, date (format month and year, e.g.: June 2018), name of the Master and logo of VIU. - Summary: Consisting of a brief description (from 450 to 500 words) of the work to be performed, with its requirements and specifications, explicitly mentioning whether it is based on previous works carried out by the student's tutor, an earlier or similar project. - Index paged - Objectives. - State of the art of the technology employed. - Development of the Project. - Results. - Evaluation and discussion of the results. - Conclusions and future developments. - References. • Formal structure. The TFM will be written in size A4 using any text editor. The following guidelines will be mandatory: - Letra Arial or Helvetica, 11pts. or Interlineado 1.5 sts. - Horizontal and vertical margins of 3 cm • It is recommended that the memory of the TFM has a number of pages between 40 and 80 (in no case less than 40) without counting annexes. • The use of illustrations is important and recommended for demonstration or explanation of ideas or developments as a summary or clarification. • The deposit of the TFM may be effective if all the subjects of the plan have passed except the TFM itself. • The public defence of the TFM can only be carried out if the previous evaluation of the memory of the TFM by the director or tutor of the work is favourable. • Once notified to the coordinating committee, by the director or tutor, of its acceptance to proceed with the defence in public session of the TFM carried out, the coordination shall inform the student of the place, day and time of the presentation of the TFM, as well as of the composition of the commission to evaluate its TFM. 13 Teaching guide Master's final work: Professional orientation • For the evaluation of the defense you must upload to the platform the slide document used. The slides must be clear and with little text. The first of them must have the title, author, tutor and date of realization. • Moreover, the report must conform to the structure of a scientific work, taking into account the type of public (academic) to which it is addressed. The third person of the impersonal (instead of the first person) should be employed, as well as a non-sexist language. It should be noted that both the latex and Word templates can be used. Bibliographic references It should be in accordance with IEE/APA/Vancouver standards both in the bibliography and in the form of citation throughout the research report that constitutes the TFM. ✓ The IEE/APA/Vancouver style should be reviewed. ✓ There should be an exact correspondence between quotations from the text and bibliographical references. ✓ Take into account differences in references to books, chapters or articles, among others. ✓ References should be sorted alphabetically, by the author's first surname. ✓ It is recommended that the indentation be adjusted to the second and subsequent lines in each reference (French paragraph) to facilitate the location of each reference. Annexes If there are any, they should be included, numbered, at the end of the work. Any documentation that is relevant to the understanding and clarification of the work carried out may be annexed. Additional information will be provided in the annexes for a better understanding of the study carried out. Data related to the study, with a degree of detail that may affect the fluidity of the reading if included in the main text. e.g. , list a program; report unanalyzed data, etc. If there is information of various types, create an annex for each of them, so that they are easily localized. Each annex shall be titled and included in the index. They will be referred to in accordance with the numerical order (for example, see Annex 1, see Annex 2, see Annex 3, etc.). Other formal aspects ✓ Each main section should start on a new page. 14 Teaching guide Master's final work: Career orientation ✓ Footnotes, numbered consecutively (The size of the letter will be smaller than that of the text) can be included. ✓ Figures and tables must be integrated into the document, as close as possible to the place where they are cited, numbered accordingly. Figures or tables must bear centered foot. Research and ethics In order to prepare the TFM, it is necessary to review a wide bibliographical material, so it is necessary to clearly differentiate what are contributions taken from other authors, from reflections and analyses of their own. The latter should be the essential part of the work. Plagiarism is a ground for disqualification of the TFM, whereas the textual quotation is not considered demerit, which must always be accompanied by the relevant reference. It is essential to be extremely careful with the reproduction of texts by paraphrases. When using the paraphrase, it must carry, in the same way, the corresponding reference. 3. Exhibition and defense of work End of Master The TFM can be presented in the first or second call without penalty, in any case, will be sent at least 15 days before the beginning of the defense periods. Thus, on the date indicated, the student will submit the work (in.pdf format) through the Activity established for this purpose on the Virtual Campus. The name of the.pdf file will have the following format: TFM_APELLIDOS-NAMBRE.pdf. NOTE: TFM tutors will not accept for correction works that do not present the linguistic competence necessary and mandatory to overcome this Master's degree. Directors' corrections will be limited to content suggestions, under no circumstances will directors become style proofreaders. In addition, no work should collect modifications or additions after the final delivery to the director. If any work is modified after the TFM Director's report, this work will be considered NOT APPTO for defense for failure in the procedure. The deposit of the Final Master's degree must be made in accordance with the regulations. The student must register his/her work on the virtual campus in PDF format in the activity tab enabled for this purpose, attaching Annex 1. Application for the defence of work and Annex 2 - The documents relating to Annexes 1 and 2 must be signed and can be scanned. Upon deposit of the work, the provisional schedule of defenses of the End of Master's Work will be made public within a maximum of 15 calendar days from deposit. The student shall have a period of 5 calendar days to submit the relevant claims. Only those considered of major cause will be attended 15 Teaching guide End of Master's degree: Professional orientation The day before your defense by videoconference, the student will deliver the slide presentation through an activity created for this purpose in the subject. The slide show should be done in Power Point (the equivalent of Open Office, or images), which are compatible programs (not possible in PDF), and send it as a limit the day before the defense in the activity enabled at the time for it. There is no slide limit, although it is recommended not to include more than 15. During the maximum set time (20 minutes) the most important part of the TFM should be outlined (it is not recommended to write a lot of text or read it, but to write down ideas and explain them). It is recommended to start the presentation with a cover slide containing all the important data of the TFM (at least, name of the University, name of the student and the director, orientation of the master's degree, title of the TFM and summons); it is not advisable to dwell much on the theoretical framework, but to present the objectives and methodology and focus on the results obtained, conclusions and limitations/contributions of the work. The presentation should include, where appropriate, a live demonstration of the software implemented. 4. Evaluation The evaluation of the Final Master's Degree represents 20% of the final grade of the Master's Degree, whose memory will be drawn up according to the general rules of the Final Master's Degree Regulations of the VIU and the specific rules described in this guide, and defended before a court composed of three specialists appointed by the VIU, in which a teacher of the course and two external specialists will be present 4.1. Evaluation System The Student Assessment Model at the University is based on the principles of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and is adapted to the virtual training structure of this University. In this way, it is aimed at the evaluation of competences.
